God loves you, created you to be in relationship with Him & wants your life to have meaning & fulfillment. But sin separates you from this relationship. People often try to bridge this gap by doing good things; that won’t work. No bridge can get us to God except one – receiving His gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.
WHAT'S YOUR NEXT STEP?
The moment you ask Jesus to be your Savior & Lord, you are born into God’s family & His Spirit comes to live in your heart. Want the assurance of knowing you are saved?
- Admit your need for a Savior (Romans 3:23)
- Confess your sins, turn away from them & turn to God (1 John 1:9)
- Believe Jesus died to pay for your sins (John 3:16)
- Ask Him to be your Savior & Lord (Romans 10:9)
As with other relationships, you need to invest time & energy into making it grow. Listed below are 7 things you can do to grow in your relationship with Christ & experience the abundant life He has for you! One of the best way to learn how to live out these practices is to attend our Growth Track (see description below).
1) BE WATER BAPTIZED
After we have come into a relationship with Christ, our next step is to follow Jesus' example by being water baptized. Water baptism is an outward demonstration of our inward decision to make Jesus our Lord, desiring to be free of our past & live a new life in His power & strength. Water baptisms are held at various times throughout the year, during services at the Bear Campus. For upcoming dates or more info, visit the Water Baptism page.
2) READ GOD’S WORD
Communication is key to every relationship. When you learn God’s Word, you begin to understand His heart for you & find truths that can transform your thoughts & behaviors. Spend time reading the Bible every day. Ask God to give you understanding of what you read & how it applies to your life. A good place to start is with the book of John.
3) TALK WITH GOD
Set aside a fixed time every day to focus on prayer & also talk with Him throughout the day. You don’t have to recite formal prayers. Just say what is on your heart & speak in a simple & direct way, just as you would with a friend.
4) GATHER CORPORATELY WITH OTHER BELIEVERS
Attend church on Sundays so you can listen to gifted teachers explain Biblical truths & how they apply to your life.
5) SHARE YOUR FAITH & INVITE OTHERS TO RECEIVE CHRIST
Reach out to unchurched people you know who do not have a relationship with Christ. Share your own experiences of how He has changed you & brought joy, peace & fulfillment. Then invite them to come to church with you, so they can receive salvation too.
6) LEARN KEY PRACTICES IN GROWTH TRACK
Participate in the Growth Track, a series of 4 steps that will help you learn principles & practices necessary for spiritual growth, including connecting to other believers, discovering your spiritual gifts, maximizing your potential to influence others and more. For dates & times, visit the Growth Track page on our website.
7) COMMIT TO SPIRITUAL GROWTH THROUGH MEMBERSHIP
Becoming a member of the local church shows you want to grow & take steps to become a mature disciple of Jesus. When you become a member of Love of Christ Church, we are committed to help you on your faith journey & take care of you in times of need. To become a member, just take the first step in the Growth Track, held the first Sunday of every month, & then fill out the membership form provided there.
8) CONNECT WITH OTHERS IN SMALL GROUPS
Spend time in a small group setting with others who love the Lord. This will challenge & encourage you to keep growing in your relationship with Him. Our small groups meet in homes or at the church throughout the week. For more info or to sign up, visit the small groups page on our website.
9) SERVE IN YOUR GIFTINGS
God has wired you with unique spiritual gifts, interests & abilities that can bless others & help them find salvation too. When you attend our Growth Track, you will take assessments to discover your giftings & learn specific ways to use them. As you use your gifts, you’ll find a new level of joy & purpose in life!
10) HONOR GOD WITH GIVING
God owns all we have, & we are mere stewards of what He has entrusted to us. Scripture tells us to bring a tithe (10 percent) of our income to the local church, with the promise that God will bless us (Malachi 3:10). Every time you give to the church, you are making an eternal investment in helping others - locally, nationally & internationally - experience life-change through Jesus Christ. God also sees your giving & is storing up rewards for you in heaven (Matthew 16:27).
